Celebrations are precious moments for cherished memories. At Adhyapana School, CBSE Madurai, we believe in creating shared experiences by bringing together our entire community – students, parents, grandparents, and friends – to celebrate together. Our recent festivities were a joyous occasion, uniting more than 1000 people in a shared celebration of Thai Pongal.
The Pongal celebration on 11th January 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, was a resounding success, enjoyed by people of all ages. Organized by the dedicated PRO team of the School, the event showcased meticulous planning and days of hard work.
Over 40 stalls, including 23 delectable food stalls, lined the grounds, offering a diverse range of products such as clothing, accessories, home decor, paintings, food products, organic soaps, photo frames, and even dance training sessions.
From the colorful ethnic decorations and the symbolic Vadivasal entrance, to the calm bull and ram fights, the atmosphere was electric. The rustic folk dance, the sweet aroma of ‘javvu mithai,’ and the artistry of pot-making added to the festive charm.
The day buzzed with excitement, filled with lively competitions like rangoli making, water-filling races, spinning tops, cycle races, lemon and spoon race, and the thrilling ‘Breaking the Pot’ contest – created an ambiance reminiscent of a bustling fair, offering a delightful range of experiences for everyone.
The bullock cart rides, the whirling mini Ferris wheel (ranga raatinam), and the challenging ‘Illavata Kal’ – the traditional sport of lifting heavy stones – created lasting memories for the young generation and evoked a sense of nostalgia in the elders.
The event commenced with school prayer song, followed by a warm welcome address from our esteemed Principal, Mrs. B. Muthumala. Subsequently, Sr. Principal and Correspondent, Mrs. Aruna M Visvessvar, graciously introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. I. Stephen, Associate Producer and RJ at Suryan FM, Madurai.
Mr. Stephen eloquently shared the profound significance of ‘Tamizhar Thiruvizha’ – the Thai Pongal Festival – captivating the attention of Gen Z and all audience members. His insightful words on the importance of this cherished tradition were deeply appreciated by all. A special memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Shri. Visesh Aiyer, Dean of Academics, alongwith Mrs. Aruna M Visvessvar, Sr. Principal and Correspondent.
The festivities began with traditional dance competition. Eight teams, comprising students from Stds. III to IX and XI, showcased their talents. Std. III, with their team of 23 enthusiastic dancers, won a special prize for their spirited performance. The first prize, however, went to the energetic dancers of Std. VII, a team of 34 vibrant performers.
The event was generously sponsored by Madurai Steels, Usha Steel House, Ujjivan Bank, Madhuban Publications, Rachna Sagar Publications, Anandha Grocery Shop, Radio City FM, U TV, and JC TV. The recorded event will be aired on both the TV channels very soon.
The lucky draw prizes were generously offered by Black Forest, Phils Bistro, Amman Restaurant, Konar Kadai, and the Taj Hotel.
The day concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, PE Teacher and a dedicated member of the PRO team, followed by National Anthem.
